Columbia California 2020

We took a couple days off work to head up to Columbia California to take in some trees, clean air, and 1800's buildings. We stayed at the City Hotel.  We brought the Magic Lantern in case there were other hotel guests that might fancy a quick impromptu show.  This would allow building up some skill and also get some direct feedback.  Unfortunately, we were the only ones at the hotel!  We had the whole building to ourselves!

We still managed to make the best of it.  Some of the business were open and we were able to get some really nice snacks.

Sadly, the restaurant inside the City Hotel had closed.  Though, the building and period bar room are still very much intact.

Tourism was very light, it was no problem to "Socially Distance" while checking out the period buildings.

Many of the buildings and environs in Columbia have been used for Filming. This building is famous for being used in the movie "High Noon"

Here's Gary Copper coming out of the same gate in 1951!

We started up a conversation with the owner of the Columbia Mercantile 1855 store.  We mentioned our projects with Wet Plate Photography, Telegraphy, and now Magic Lanterns.  She invited us to come by with the lantern and show her.  She set us up in the store to demonstrate for the customers.  We showed some slides and talked about the technology involved in 1800's mechanical cinema.

Overall a great trip. Looking forward to going back again!
